First Nations, Métis and Inuit Programming

Barrydowne College’s program for First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) students has flourished and we are leaders in regards to our First Nations programming. Students are invited to study the following courses as they work towards their high school diploma:

  • English: Understanding Contemporary First Nations, Métis and Inuit Voices
  • Art: Expressions of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Cultures
  • Contemporary First Nations, Métis and Inuit Perspectives
  • World Views and Aspirations of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Communities
  • Contemporary Indigenous Issues and perspectives in a Global Context

Students will explore First Nations, Métis and Inuit culture and arts through workshops such as medicine bag creation, beadwork or drumming. Students also participate in outings including an annual trip to M’Chigeeng for Kenjgewin Teg’s Fall Harvest where they attend teachings, learn about traditional medicine, try traditional foods and speak with elders.

All of our students are encouraged to visit Cambrian College’s Wabnode Centre for Indigenous Services. Through this community partnership we attend ceremonies, events and are able to use their smudge room when available.
